Energy and Resources

The energy landscape and its associated debates are shifting at an unprecedented pace. The arguments and decisions taking place right now will define the energy mix for years to come. This impacts every aspect of the broader energy and resources industry.

Delivering a major project or promoting and defending a significant investment invariably involves working with a wide range of stakeholders in politics, business, media and the community.

The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in both formal and informal regulatory barriers to resource extraction and energy production. In particular, the increase in environmental concern – not least amongst farmers, fishers and indigenous communities – has led to a rise in the cost of compliance and has changed the economics of energy production.

At the same time, the rise in activism has presented new risks to corporate reputation, and it is incumbent on all proponents of development to demonstrate they hold to the highest environmental, social and governance standards. That applies to renewable energy projects as much as traditional resource developments.

The approach by H/Advisors APA is to minimise the level of confrontation around resource and energy projects. We acknowledge the importance of sustainability and Australians’ concern for clean air and water, while at the same time recognising the critical economic contribution of traditional hard commodity and energy sectors.

Our model is based on pro-active communication, community education, broad-based stakeholder engagement and negotiation with regulators - an approach which has delivered successes on some of Australia’s most challenging resource and energy questions, from gas extraction and mining services to nuclear waste management and renewable energy.
