Governance change in independent schools

The recommendations of the Royal Commission into institutional response to child abuse, have resulted in many churches undertaking school asset restructuring for the first time in up to 100 years.

Whether it’s incorporation or a shift in ownership to a new group or like-minded entity, communication is critical for a range of reasons:

  • To overcome a lack of knowledge about legal structures and the importance of governance.

  • To confirm continuity in the faith-based education provided.

  • To guarantee protection and ownership of assets.

  • To ensure teachers and staff that there will be no change to conditions with the shift in employment.

H/Advisors APA has undertaken communications projects for four Christian churches in Australia in regard to their school assets. Ensuring the right level of information, the right messaging and tone, and the right language, are key to ensuring stakeholders are brought on the journey of change rather than questioning what is being imposed.
