How do you make complex high-tech science infrastructure relevant and tangible to potential funders, research partners and the general public?

This is a common challenge in science, and certainly one faced by ANSTO’s Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne on a daily basis. Being one of the largest scientific instruments of its type in the Southern Hemisphere, the Synchrotron is utilised by scientists to answer some of the world’s most complex medical, environmental and industrial questions.

H/Advisors APA has been supporting ANSTO’s Australian Synchrotron with effective communications support since 2013, translating research outputs into stories which have traction with government, media, the science community and the general public and potential funding partners.

We have worked on the launch of new instruments, the delivery of new findings and insights, and announcements about new or potential treatments and cures for disease – a diverse challenge but one that involves plain English storytelling to the right audiences in the right way.

During the COVID-19 pandemic alone, Australian Public Affairs generated 15 individual stories and interviews about the research work of ANSTO’s Synchrotron, that were seen by more than 2.2 million people around Australia and New Zealand.
