Tired of noisy all night parties and destruction of common property, peak group Owners Corporation Network wanted to restore the right of owners to have a say in their building’s use for short-term stays.

The “Our Strata Community – Our Choice” campaign was driven by H/Advisors APA on behalf of OCN, and fought for the rights of thousands of apartment owners across the State in the face of the rapid rise in short-term letting platforms.

Across the media and in Macquarie Street, the campaign successfully made the case that at the centre of strata living is that collective decision-making, and that is what should guide the allowance of, and rules around, short-term accommodation platforms such as Airbnb in residential unit blocks.

As a result, the NSW Government has made changes ensuring this fundamental democratic right occurs with short-term letting, with owners corporations now able to adopt by-laws that prohibit short-term rental accommodation in strata schemes.
